Gaby Alter

Musical Director

Gaby Alter is a composer/lyricist based in Brooklyn. He is a winner of the 2008 Jonathan Larson Award, the 1998 San Francisco Theater Critics’ Circle Award, and the 2004 New York Fringe Festival Songwriting Award. His musicals include Band Geeks, with Tommy Newman and Mark Allen, currently being developed at Goodspeed Musicals; Reality! with playwright Itamar Moses, which had a reading at the 2008 Cape Cod Theatre Project, and the pop song cycle Twenty-Nine, which was produced by NYU Steinhardt’s School of Vocal Performance in 2007. 

Songs by Gaby have been featured in William Finn’s New Songwriters Cabaret at Barrington Stage Company, John Znidarsic’s Songbook Series at the Lincoln Center library, the 2006 Tisch On Broadway Gala hosted by Billy Crystal, and TheAtrainPlays at the New York Musical Theater Festival. He has written songs for the PBS show Preschool Kids Block, as well as for films, radio and video games. Gaby is a member of the Dramatists’ Guild and ASCAP, and a graduate of the Tisch Musical Theatre Writing Program.
