Peter Capelle

Director of Music

PETER CAPELLE is the Head Musical Director for Applause Theatrical Workshops. He handles all musical arrangements for the Broadway Babies classes, and oversees the arrangements used in the Broadway Superstars classes as well as the Applause Program. Peter plays an active role in the musical curriculum used in the program by incorporating musical terms and approaches that will prepare the children for further musical study. As well, when teaching music to the children, he draws on techniques he studied in the Dalcroze method while at The Cleveland Institute of Music. Additional responsibilities in the company include creating synthesizer parts for the Applause Shows, and teaching piano privately.

An active freelance musician and composer in the tri-state area, Peter has played keyboards for college, middle and high school productions of Baby, Bat Boy, and Bye, Bye, Birdie. He performs regularly as a cabaret pianist around the city, and has worked as an arranger for several professional singers and dancers. In 2000, he formed his own new music ensemble, and his compositions have been performed at locations such as The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Galapagos Arts Space, The Tank, The Knitting Factory, The Next Stage, and Steinway Hall. Honors and awards include a Silver Medal for Excellence from the Park City Film Music Festival for his score to Williamsburg Bridge - a film by Nicole Koschmann, selection by the American Composers Forum for an Orchestral Reading by the St. Paul Symphony, and a commission by The Oklahoma Arts Institute. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from The Cleveland Institute of Music and a Masters in Composition from Indiana University School of Music.
